Philosophy Preventive medicine protects against the consequences of illnesses, and guarantees a future for the health care system. Preventive medicine concepts effectively contribute to the reduction of chronic illnesses among the population. These illnesses are a factor in the constantly increasing costs in the health care system. In contrast, a basic symptom-oriented care structure contributes to increases in health care expenditure, and does not really reduce costs.
